Premise

In our ever changing world, in our ever fast lives, many of us seem to be "too busy" to stay active and healthy.  The purpose of my blog is to encourage self education and to understand what it means to be healthy.  My aim is to equip my readers with the basic knowledge of human biology and the foundations of how disease affects our bodies.  This will allow them to continue to research and gain further understanding.  I am hoping that they will then be able to use their newly founded knowledge to educate others.  I believe my future blogs will help me achieve my aim.

Healthcare, health education, and leading a healthy lifestyle goes far beyond just visiting the doctors office.  It’s about taking charge of your actions, your lifestyle and your future.

My blog isn't necessarily designed for someone who is learning, or working in the healthcare field. Nor is it designed for a student studying science or medicine.  It’s for all the rest.  Those who have no science background, or perhaps haven't studied in years.  It’s for the average, everyday "Joe."  My blog isn't designed to give specific health advice to individuals about their health conditions.  This is, and should always be the role of your doctor.

So what is the point of reading my blog?  It’s about attempting to explain how our bodies work normally, and what happens when diseases attack.  I believe if you understand what disease does to your body, you are more likely to make changes in your daily life, that will prevent you getting the disease in the first instance.  For example, if you want to decrease your chances of developing a heart disease, then it's crucial to be able to understand, firstly, what a heart attack is and, secondly, why cholesterol and a non-active lifestyle contributes to the development of a heart attack.  You also need to understand the importance of eating right and exercise, and how this will help decrease one's chance of developing heart disease.  Only then, are you more likely to make the changes in your life that will lower your chances of developing a heart attack in the first instance.

So who am I? What am I about? Why am I doing this? What’s in it for me? Just some of the questions I assume many might be asking themselves while reading my first blog.  So let me give you a brief introduction and explanation of my life so far, and what I want to do in the future.  Born and raised in East London, I have had my fair share of experience when it comes to hospitals, and partaking in charitable event.  I grew up with an older brother, and an uncle with special needs, and this is where I inherit my ambition to become a doctor and eventually practice medicine.  I recently graduated from a medical university abroad, and currently in search for a medical internship. That’s just a fancy way of saying I’m looking for a postgraduate training medical job!  While I sort all my paperwork together etc..., I realised I can start making a difference and practice my life long passion to help others now.
Since graduating I’ve been inundated by family and friends all trying to find out more about different diseases.  One might think that with so much information on the web these days, people would be able to fully understand the cause treatments etc... of any health condition.  That’s when I realised the problem.  Although there’s such a vast knowledge of information easily available, not everybody understands it.  Thus, I’ve created my blog, YogzMD.  It will aim to fill this gap, and so I’m trying to create a home, self health education movement.  My blog is going to be a continuation of a charity that myself, and my two cousins have started, Gondalia Foundation.  Together, we aim to spread health education awareness to the general public.  This new charity (which is still in the early stages of creation) will aim to raise money through events and fundraisers, and use the donations in ventures that spread health education to the general public.  While this blog, will aim to spread a constant stream of knowledge about health to the general public.

At about this time, you may be thinking to yourself “how can this recent graduate, who hasn't started clinical training, know enough to start teaching the readers of this blog?”  Personally, I wouldn't blame you for thinking that.  You have to understand, I’m not diagnosing anyone's problem, I am simply giving you the basic knowledge in the hope that it will encourage you to go on and further your learning.  This information, I believe is fundamental, and this basic understanding is something all people who have studied health will know.  When I write my blogs, I will use simple and easy to read english, with metaphors, that will keep the reader engaged.  So, if you are someone who is of a science or medical background, you may feel “it’s too simple,” or that “I’m not giving the full picture.” You’d probably be right.  The aim is not to tell you everything about a certain disease.  It’s simply about giving you enough information, and therefore be able to understand the vast amount of detail out there that is  widely available.  Simply put, I have a passion to help others, and this is one way in which I would like to help.

Finally, please allow me to reiterate the premise of my blog.  It is for you, the reader to read and hopefully begin to gain the foundations to understanding how our bodies work.  I then encourage you to continue this new found knowledge and continue to advance your understanding.  Spread what you learnt, and teach others.  So, join me in this new found "Health Education Movement!"  Together, with understanding health, encouraging others, we can all aim to hopefully lead to a disease-free life, for many years to come.
